Profile
The Andalusian is strongly built, yet extremely
elegant and noble in appearance. The typical Andalusian
stands 15 to 16.2 hands. The mane and tail are
thick and long.
The ideal head on an Andalusian has
beautiful, almond shaped eyes set in a triangular
orbital arch, with a flat, to slightly convex face. The
outer edge of the ears should be a perfect curve with
the tips rounded off and pointing slightly forwards.
The nostrils are elongated, oval, shaped like an
inverted comma. The muzzle is refined, with a prehensile
lip. The horse should look round from every aspect. The
neck is reasonably long, broad, yet elegant and well
crested in stallions. Their high crest (which
should never be fallen) should blend evenly into well
defined withers.
The shoulder should be long and
sloping with an ideal angle of 50 degrees from
horizontal. The forelegs are set further back than
that of most breeds. The arm should slope back
from the shoulder joint. The back is straight with
a visible up-rise through the loin area to a round and
well-developed croup. The tail is low set, and should
not be carried high or loosely.
